Your Bucket List
For nearly 100 years, families near and far have come to love the community known as Holden Beach. As one of three barrier islands located on the southern coast of North Carolina, Holden Beach has welcomed visitors to enjoy the natural environment and good old southern hospitality.
We welcome you to a lifestyle of serenity at
Holden Beach is a gem of a vacation destination. Accommodating a world of outdoor sports and interests, with crystal clear beaches that are uncrowded even during the busiest summer days, the island was recently ranked as one of the top family friendly beaches in the country. And “HOLDEN BEACH IS AMERICA’S #1 BEST FAMILY BEACH”, as ranked by Stephen P. Leatherman, Director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida International University.
An ideal launching point for boating, kayaking, fishing, surfing, and any number of sandy and salty past times, Holden Beach is a nationally acclaimed barrier island that is a perfect escape for families who want to throw on the flip flops, spread out the beach towel, and enjoy the laid-back, coastal scene.
Make Special Family Memories
Ranked by National Geographic’s TRAVELER Magazine as one of the country’s top 10 family beaches, the appeal for the island comes from its’ quiet position between the port city of Wilmington, NC and the bustling scene of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Make plans to take the Olden Holden Bike Tour! The tour consists of three different bike routes, totaling approximately 20 miles, each with its own special beauty and history. Along the routes, you will find numbered signs, which signify special points of interest.
Boating, fishing, jogging and hiking the island are very popular activities. Our grandchildren love to play Bocce Ball on the beach . It’s an easy-to-learn, laid-back game, so you don’t have to worry about getting sweaty and everyone in your family can play. Or just take a walk. Shell hunters can find so many that the kids will fill up the car when they pack to return home.
With plenty to see and do such as fishing along the pier, watching the sea turtles in their natural habitat, seeking the perfect seashell, or simply lounging in the sand, Holden Beach is the not just a tranquil vacation destination but a location that embraces and understands nature.
The island is a sea turtle habitat and during the hatching season (May to October) those who don’t mind staying up late at night can witness one of nature’s most interesting pleasures – watching hundreds of small sea turtles “boil’ out of the sand and marching to the ocean.
Interested in more local nightlife? Head to the beach. One of the most popular after dark activities is ghost crab hunting, and all a prospective hunter needs to participate is a flashlight and a love of the great outdoors. Take a nocturnal expedition of your own and introduce yourself to these skittish but abundant local natives.
