Try Your Hand at Saltwater Fishing

Whether it’s fishing from the pier, beach, or deep-sea fishing you’re interested in, Holden is the place to be.  Anglers will find plenty of opportunities to reel in a big catch at the Holden Beach Pier. With ample room, even in the height of the summer tourist season, the Holden Beach Fishing Pier will inspire any angler to get off the beach chair, grab the rods and reels, and start casting.

Or, go for the max adventure on a fishing charter, either for inshore angling or for a deep-water experience in waters as far out as the Gulf Stream. Holden Beach’s Charter Boat Captains are dedicated to offering the best fishing experience possible to experienced fishermen or those who have always wanted to try deep sea fishing! Full-day, 1/2-day and shorter sport fishing excursions are available.

Explore Nature

With plenty to see and do such as fishing along the pier, watching the sea turtles in their natural habitat, seeking the perfect seashell, or simply lounging in the sand, Holden Beach is the not just a tranquil vacation destination but a location that embraces and understands nature.

The island is a sea turtle habitat and during the hatching season (May to October) those who don’t mind staying up late at night can witness one of nature’s most interesting pleasures – watching hundreds of small sea turtles "boil’ out of the sand and marching to the ocean.

Interested in more local nightlife? Head to the beach. One of the most popular after dark activities is ghost crab hunting, and all a prospective hunter needs to participate is a flashlight and a love of the great outdoors. Take a nocturnal expedition of your own and introduce yourself to these skittish but abundant local natives.

Make connections with the natural world at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.

Make Special Family Memories

Ranked by National Geographic's TRAVELER Magazine as one of the country's top 10 family beaches, the appeal for the island comes from its' quiet position between the port city of Wilmington, NC and the bustling scene of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Make plans to take the Olden Holden Bike Tour! The tour consists of three different bike routes, totaling approximately 20 miles, each with its own special beauty and history. Along the routes, you will find numbered signs, which signify special points of interest.

Boating, fishing, jogging and hiking the island are very popular activities. Shell hunters can find so many that the kids will fill up the car when they pack to return home.
